Template For Fast Writing – Book Writing

September 3rd, 2010 Bob B Taylor No comments

Just like many other tasks we often get stumped when trying to write our own book, that’s where a template can come in handy. One of my favorite is what I call the 101 template.

This template is best when used by some one who is experienced at there subject matter. Such as an accountant who after 10 years decides to write their own book. Now that’s not to say that an inexperienced writer couldn’t use this template, its juts that they would need to modify the approach some.

3. Paint with broad strokes and let the readers fill in the blanks. It is not necessary or preferred to tell every detail in your characters’ life.

4. Grab the reader on the first line of the first page.

5. Creating a believable character is one part imagination and one part skill. You must be able to see your story people in your mind before you can expect your reader to do so.

6. If you don’t get emotional about your writing while you are writing, don’t think your reader will care. You might have to shed some tears along the way.

7. Don’t describe the obvious. If your character is walking into a kitchen it is not necessary to tell the reader there is a stove and a refrigerator. That goes without saying. Describe the stove only if it is pertinent and unusual, say an 8-burner restaurant-style grill.

8. Providing details is how you make a believer out of your reader. Here’s an exercise you can do so that you notice more details in your everyday life. Every night make it a habit to write down 5 interesting or unusual things you noticed during the course of the day.

Let them know that you understand their needs and that you’re the one person who can help them. The book lets them know in detail exactly how can help them and the common benefits they could gain from working with you

Writing On Current Events – Article Writing Tips

September 1st, 2010 Bob B Taylor No comments

Article writing is such a wide open field. You can write on just about anything from sports to music to zebras if you like. One of the most fascinating areas to write about is current events. But writing about current events has its pitfalls. In this article, I’m going to go over the pros and cons of writing about stuff in the news. You may or may not want to tackle these after reading this little piece.

No, WRONG!

In the online world, experts are people who have knowledge that they are able to convey to their readers – they are able TEACH. Even if you were a genius in your niche – that would not be enough. You must be able to share the things you know with your readers.

So, how do you do this?

Here are three simple tips – they may seem obvious. But it’s amazing the difference it will make if you give them a little thought:

1. Use language that is easy for the average reader to understand – avoid industry jargon.

2. Focus on writing articles that teach specific things. THINK of yourself as a teacher. Use plenty of “How To” articles.

3. Be passionate about your subject. Your words will mean so much more to your readers if they feel you are speaking from the heart.

Commit to writing articles on a regular basis. When you build up a good supply of articles for your market it will increase your reader’s confidence in you. They will be willing to listen to what you have to say and to LEARN from you. Because you are an established expert in your field.

Now, take an article on article marketing or SEO or something that is not so timely, something that is going to be consistent for a long time. Those articles are going to be read tomorrow as much as they’re going to be read today. Sure, they may not get the initial traffic that then current events articles get, but they’ll get a lot more traffic five years from now.

Yes, you can do well writing about current events, for the short term. But if you want long term traffic, you might want to focus on topics that aren’t so timely

How To Speak With Confidence – Public Speaking

September 1st, 2010 Bob B Taylor No comments

Most people experience “nerves” when they speak in public. Both skilled public speakers and novice speakers experience this anxiety. The difference is in how they use it when they present because of the actions they take and their attitude towards it.

The way to speak with confidence is:

1. Preparation
Careful preparation naturally leads to self-confidence. This involves researching your topic thoroughly so you can build your expertise in it. When a selecting a topic it helps greatly if you are interested in it because when you stand up to speak to a group you are merely expanding the conversation you will have had previously. Once you have researched the topic the next step is to organize, outline and write the speech. When beginning in public speaking, it is advisable to write your speech out in full, so you get a fully thought through speech. Keep the sentences short. Use spoken language rather than written language especially if you are considering reading your speech. (Note it is difficult to convey confidence when reading a speech).

Obama was trying to calm concerns that the government program was meant to eliminate private health-care companies. After pointing out that UPS and FedEx are effectively competing with the USPS Obama added, “It’s the post office that’s always having problems”.

Opponents were quick to jump on the comment suggesting government-run health-care would also be prone to having problems.

Three reasons for spontaneous Q&A

Just as in the public sector, spontaneous question and answer periods are important aspects of meetings in private sector companies. They provide a leader with the opportunity to:

  • Establish Trust: People are reassured they are getting more honest feedback when a leader answers unexpected questions, or expected questions worded in an unexpected way. People feel these unscripted answers are more honest and open than when prepared remarks are read. They also feel more connected to the presenter because of the perceived honest communication.
  • Get a pulse of the stakeholders: The two-way communication of an open forum allows the leader to hear what is most troubling to the audience. Whether employees, suppliers, stockholders, or other stakeholder, the leader is able to gain a deeper understanding of the depth of concern for a particular issue, proposal, or future direction.
  • Disseminate information: Providing information in this format allows all to hear the same presentation and immediately to react to anything of great concern. This process allows both the audience and speaker to clear up any misconceptions immediately.

Speaking with confidence comes from exercising a little courage. Many talents are denied the world because it is not exercised. The forest would lack much music if only the birds that sang were the ones with the best voice.

Persistently speaking in front of groups builds confidence. It is by consistently practice and doing, that public speaking is improved. By taking the first step and realizing that the key to success is in your own hands the first “bud” of confidence appears. With proper care and attention the “bud” is developed so that you become more effective and speak with confidence
